About Us

IGSM is an official international and graduate Christian student group at UC Irvine. IGSM began at UC Berkeley with a mission is to “love locally, impact globally", seeking to create a "home away from home" for international and graduate students. Since then, different branches of IGSM have been established at campuses such as UC Davis and UT Austin. This Fall of 2017, an UC Irvine branch is being established with the help of 2 volunteer staff couples who had originally been with IGSM Berkeley. We offer weekly Bible studies, and special talks on topics such as science vs. faith, the reliability of the Bible, God's existence, among others. We also offer English class, small group gatherings, fun trips around the area, sports, among other things. If you want to know more about us, contact us here, or come to one of our upcoming events.

Chul Kim and his wife Sharon lead IGSM Irvine, and included in the picture are their children, Michael and Pauline. Chul completed his B.S. degree in Microbiology at Seoul National University in 1990 and came to the U.S. as a doctoral student in Biophysics at UC Berkeley in 1992, completing his Ph.D. in 1997. He is currently on a sabbatical from California State University East Bay (CSUEB) as a professor of Chemistry. With the same passion he holds for science, he teaches and mentors students on the topics of Christianity and Christian values. Sharon is an alumna of UC Berkeley (B.A. in Economics, 1993). She is a mentor, a friend, a guide, and a counselor to many students as we experience the stresses of student life.
